The Internet age has reached Mount Everest

Trekking in Nepal DVD - Everest Base Camp Trek - Kathmandu city tour - Rough travel guideThe Internet age has reached Mount Everest. A brand new transmission tower has been erected in an elevation of about 5,200 meters. That means that the base camp is now online.

Thanks to the efforts of the Nepalese Internet provider Ncell, mountaineers can now make phone and video calls, access the Web, send email and update their Web sites, Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Climbers who reached the summit are now able to inform the world about their success without hassle via the Internet. Previously this was only possible via expensive satellite technology.
